Arthur Fagen is General Music Director of the Dortmund Philharmonic in Germany and the Queens Symphony Orchestra in the United States. He is also a respected guest conductor on major opera and concert podiums throughout the world. In concert, Maestro Fagen has appeared as a guest conductor of the Cologne Radio, Hamburg Symphony, Orchestra Lamoureux, Dutch Radio (Hilversum), Oslo Radio Symphony, Jerusalem Symphony, Orchestra Siciliana, Palermo, Madrid Symphony Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Orchestra, Hamburg Symphony, Bochum Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra de l'Arena di Verona, the Halle Orchestra, Prague Symphony Orchestra, RAI orchestras of Milan, Naples, Rome, and Turin, Tokyo Philharmonic, Prague Spring Festival, Augsburg Symphony, Orchestra del Teatro dell'Opera di Genova, and Heidelberg Festival, Sacramento Symphony, and Louisiana Philharmonic, Berlin Symphony, Orchestre Nationale of Belgium, Liege Philharmonic, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, Stuttgart Philharmonic, and as a regular guest conductor of the Munich Radio Symphony, most notably.

In recent seasons, Mr. Fagen has been a frequent guest conductor at the Vienna State Opera (La Boheme, L'Elisir d'Amore, Don Carlo, Turandot, Cavalleria Rusticana, La Traviata and I Pagliacci) as well as the Hamburgische Staatsoper, Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, the Florentine Opera, and the New Israeli Opera,Tel-Aviv.

Last season, Maestro Fagen returned to the Vienna State Opera, Berlin State Opera, Munich Radio Orchestra, Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK), Orchestra del Teatro di San Carlo, Naples, and made debuts with the Semper Oper Dresden, Teatro Regio Torino, Festivale Musicale Settembre di Torino and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

This coming season, he will commence his tenure in Dortmund conducting the opening concert of the new Konzerthaus Dortmund with Mahler's Symphony No. 3 with Violeta Urmana as guest soloist. He will also conduct Die Meistersinger, Jenufa, and Don Giovanni for the Dortmund Opera and return to the Semper Opera, Dresden to lead a new production of Nabucco, Teatro Bellini di Catania for Dialogues of the Carmelites and symphonic concerts, and Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

Mr. Fagen began his career as a conductor with the Frankfurt Opera, as assistant to Christoph von Dohnanyi. He also served as Principal Conductor of the Kassel and Braunschweig Orchestras, Chief Conductor of the Royal Flemish Antwerp and Ghent Orchestras and continues to serve as Music Director of the Queens Symphony Orchestra. Among Mr. Fagen's many recordings are works of Ippolitov-Ivanov, Martinj and MacDowell on the Naxos label, the celebrated "Aria" album with clarinetist Richard Stolzman and a recent recording of
Rossini arias and duets featuring famed mezzo-soprano Vesselina Kassarova for BMG, as well as contemporary works for New World Records.

He is a native of New York City and a graduate of Wesleyan University. He undertook his conducting studies at the Curtis Institute under the personal guidance of Max Rudolf. He was the first winner of the Baltimore Symphony's Conductors' Competition and was featured in the PBS special "In Search of a Maestro." Mr. Fagen is married and has three daughters.
